Foundations of the Church - #4  FELLOWSHIP (koinonia)

IN our last devotion we discussed prayer and “corporate prayer” which showed us how much we need each other NO lone rangers!!!

This leads us into today’s devotion which is FELLOWSHIP!

What is Fellowship?

(Gk. koinonia – Fellowship, communion, partnership, to share a common life).

The word "koinonia" in the Greek language, denoting a higher level of community and fellowship than what can be found in casual friendship.

Before we can have this fellowship with each other, we must first have a relationship with Jesus Christ and be in Fellowship with Him.

I John 1:6,7

v. 6 “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.”

Fellowship in the Greek means:

SHARING - Means 'a sharer' as in to share with one another in a possession held in common.

PARTNERSHIP - In classical Greek means a companion, a partner or a joint-owner. Therefore, koinonia can imply an association, common effort, or a partnership in common."

COMMUNITY - The idea of community denotes a “common unity” of purpose and interests.

Fellowship is a relationship of inner unity among believers that expresses itself in outer co-participation with Christ and one another in accomplishing God’s will on earth.” - Bob Gilliam

Fellowship is communion with other believers in order to encourage one another's walk with the Lord.

Fellowship is a word denoting a relationship that is dependent on more than one individual. It is an interdependent relationship.

Acts 2:42-47

v.42 “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

In our last devotion we mentioned the early church meet in two places: the Temple (Acts 2:46) and at gatherings in the homes of Christians (Acts 2:26 and 5:42).

Heb. 10:25

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”

People often do not take part in a church because they see no clear purpose we try to show you your purpose in the church/body of Christ.

We must remember our primary purpose is to glorify God and then show God’s glory to the world in all the many ways.

We participate together seven days a week to glorify God, to do it His way. His way is to fellowship together.
