Foundations of the Church - #1  WORD (BIBLE)

When I say the Word of God, I am ONLY referring to the BIBLE and not any other book.

I believe the Bible is 100% inspired of God.   The Bible is made of 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.  NO other book is 100% inspired,  Yes, even your favorite author is not 100% inspired.

I love PSALM 119, it is the longest chapter in the Bible and it is wonderful in glorifying the WORD OF GOD.

16 All [not some] scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. - II Tim. 3:16

All, not some, is inspired by God.

11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. - Psalm 119:11

We need to hide (treasure) God’s Word in our heart.  You do that and you will change you!

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.  Psalm 119:105

God’s Word can guide us.

In Matthew 4:1-11 Each time Jesus was tempted by the devil he quoted the scripture – Three times Jesus said “It is written.”  Jesus quoted scripture when tempted, so we need to quote God’s Word when tempted or going through trials.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God - Ephesians 6:17

The Word of God is the only piece of the armor of God that is OFFENSIVE!

12 For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

God’s word is LIVING!!!  Every time you read God’s Word (BIBLE) it can speak to you.  I have been reading (and studying) the Bible for 33 years, and it is still exciting to see what the LORD has to speak to me through the Bible.  AMEN!

I would recommend everyone getting on some Bible reading plan (most start January 1).  If you want to use your own Bible, there is a one-year plan online that you can read the Bible along with 1000’s of others, and read commentary on those days.  You can also read comments by others and add your own comments online.”  Go to: www.oneyearbibleblog.com  this is a great site.  Also, you can listen to today’s scripture reading at: DailyAudioBible.com (podcast) or OneYearAudioBible.org

If you want to purchase a ONE-YEAR BIBLE ($12.91) go to: www.Amazon.com and type in “One Year Bible.”  I like it because it keeps you paced to read the entire Bible in one year, and every day you read from OT, NT, PSA, and Proverbs.

I also have a Bible reading plan available at: www.biblefood.org

Next devotion we will look into the foundation of PRAYER.

This devotion is also available FREE in an audio sermon (41 minutes) at: http://sermon.net/download.php?c=13400-count_audio_download-126391

To listen to any of my sermons go to: http://sermon.net/biblefood
